What is SHOWPONY?

SHOWPONY is an artist led collective of 4 female fine art graduates from University of the Arts London.

SHOWPONY hunts out creative opportunities to make and showcase work, and stimulate lively critical discussions and interactions.

We believe in building strong creative alliances to support avant-garde art-making and pride ourselves on our approachability, integrity and our get-stuck-in attitude.

We curate a series of art-related events including: exhibitions, talk nights, and collaborative projects with other organisations. We will also host an arts community forum on our website (currently in development).

SHOWPONY & FROLIK

In a joint project with the collaborative DJ group FROLIK a series of artist-designed masks were created by each member of SHOWPONY for The Masquerave night on January 30 2010, at The Miller in Borough.

"FROLIK is all about love and good times; a party, a rave, a carnivale. Bringing a sense of pure and simple hedonism, colourand intrigue through bouncy beats"

Creative Collaboration Opportunity

SHOWPONY are looking for a talented (or some talented!) digital artists or graphics designers to collaborate on building an on-line community for emerging artists.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET INVOLVED?

We want to create a SHOWPONY website which showcases the work of talented young artists, creates stimulating debates about contemporary art practice, offers practical support to emerging artists, and let's people know about interesting stuff that's going on.

We've got lots of ideas about the content, but we'd love to collaborate with some artists who have experience of creating a strong on-line presence to develop those ideas, build the physical content AND create a powerful visual identity for SHOWPONY.

We can't offer any cash, but it will be a fun and creative collaboration with a group of lively young artists and a great opportunity to showcase your creative talent. We will always give full credit to everyone involved in our projects and will give you the opportunity to actively promote your work through all our activities.

If you think you might be interested, email some examples of your work and tell us a bit about yourself, to:

Love it or Hate it...

SHOWPONY was commissioned to hand paint a giant wall mural at the Marmite Pop-Up Shop that's popped up for 10 weeks on Regents Street.

Not so easy to create the straight lines of a union jack on a curved wall... but with plenty of tea and toast & marmite to keep our hands steady, we reckon we did a pretty good job.

Apparently it's become a mecca for japanese tourists wanting their photo taken in front of it...!

Go check it out at 82 Regents Street (the picadilly circus end).

South London Arts Scene

SHOWPONY were pleased to be invited to showcase our work at the first Camberwell-Chelsea-Wimbledon Graduate School Festival last week as part of a drinks evening to celebrate the range of curatorial initiatives in S.E London. Thanks to Rebecca Fortnum & Jennifer Ball for organising a great evening full of lots of interesting people doing interesting things in South London!

ShowPony at The Frieze Art Fair 2009

We're overwhelmed by the positive response we had to our 'through the eyes of emerging artists' tours of the 2009 Frieze Art Fair.

Here's a few of the comments we've been sent:

"I have to say I think you guys did a fantastic job with the tour. It was definitely the best frieze I have been to - thanks to you guys."

"It directed me towards particular pieces, enabled me to have a fascinating conversation with young artists, and made the Fair feel approachable rather than elitist and exclusionary."

"opened our eyes to new artists and ideas that we would not have stopped to think about. Renewed our interest in - and enthusiasm for modern art!"

"I was a Frieze first-timer and the whole thing could have been rather intimidating without the Showponies helping us to plot a course through the various artists, galleries and styles."

"I particularly enjoyed the debate - looking at things in a group is a great way of learning and helps you formulate your own views on the art"

Thank you to all our supporters who took the chance to come on a ShowPony tour. We're so glad it was as rewarding an experience for you as it was for us. Once again thank you for supporting the careers of young emerging artists.
